Marvel’s Civil War and My "Marvel Crossover Rule"

I’m currently buying a few Marvel Comics: X-Factor, Nextwave, the occasional She-Hulk. Looks like I’ll have a chance to apply my "Marvel Crossover Rule" that demands I stop buying any Marvel comic that has significant plot points or character development revealed in another comic.

I decided on this rule back in the 80s, when I’d buy something like the West Coast Avengers and end up having to buy some lame min-series starring the Scarlet Witch or Hawkeye or something. The X-Men related titles were, of course, the main offenders.

That’s not to say that DC Comics is any better. Significant events in the lives of Tim Drake and Dick Grayson happened in other comics (that is, Tim’s father being killed and Dick killing the Joker, apparently), and then referenced in their main titles. My tolerance for DC Comics is a little higher though, because I have more fondness in my heart for Nightwing and Robin than, for example, Strong Guy and Monet.

So I wonder which Marvel titles will be the first victim of my rule this time, with "Civil War" approaching rapidly.

    Word.

I don’t read much marvel. My peeves have all come out of DC. The cross-over culture in comics thing drives me mad.
It means apparently random things happen in one comic, which leaves you boggling until you finally crack and ask Wikipedia. The whole thing with the Identity Crisis fallout resolving in Teen Titans 6 or so months before the pivotal event in Green Arrow annoyed me so much.

Reading Batman titles can get nigh on impossible, because they keep referencing each other;# and of course the mega cross-overs for which it’s simply not worth buying any until you get the all clear. Admittedly this was worse during the nineties than now.
However, this build-up to Infinite Crisis was madness: it was utterly inescapable.

Okay, rant over. That’s a nice policy you have there; may have to copy you on it.

Well, since Civil Was has 1 gazillion cross-overs (and yes, that’s the official count), I’m betting your Marvel purchases will be sorely lacking for the forseeable future. Although, I’m pretty sure if anyone can make a mega-event crossover issue worth reading, it’s Slott.
