Okay, it’s Thursday. Let’s see how it went. You can remind yourself of my initial picks for the week. First, though, a slight rant.
Comic store owners, if you always alphabetize your comics, you should stick to that plan. Placing, for example, the latest issue of X-Factor in the ‘C’ section, just because it’s a stupid Civil War crossover is dumb. Oh, and Marvel, the cover on your web site for X-Factor was much better than the real cover. Or, should I say, the half-cover.

- Brave New World #1: Uhg. This was probably even worse than I thought it would be. You know, re-imagining the Creeper for the nth time I can take, ditto for new heroes taking over for old (Atom, Freedom Fighters). But turning the Martian Manhunter grim and gritty? And giving him a new costume that’s even more hideous than I EVER could have imagined? Why, DC, why? And is he sporting some Martian form of a ’soul patch?’ Think of the children, man!
- American Way #5: The whole racism angle isn’t doing much for me, and the plot is just moving too slowly.
- 52: Week Eight: Hey, this WAS a good issue, comparatively. I like watching the Irons family fall apart and seeing what Luthor is up to. Still, the batting average on this series needs to ratchet up considerably.
- Nextwave Agents Of Hate #6: Much like cotton candy, Nextwave is light, fluffy, and fun to eat. And, also like cotton candy, there’s not really a lot of substance to it. But, dammit, it is a fun read, I have to say.
- X-Factor #8: Peter David does a great job at the non-crossover crossover issue. Things didn’t seem to get derailed at all, despite the worthless Spider-man guest shot.
- Supergirl And The Legion Of Super Heroes #19: A noir detective story. Reep Daggle. A giant Robotman god. I loved this issue.
There you have it. Supergirl And The Legion Of Super Heroes manages to beat X-Factor just slightly. Heh. Giant Robotman God.

I did like that issue of 52. It’ll be interesting to see what powers Luthor gives Ion’s neice. Plus it was cool to see Luthor back up to his old tricks. I wonder how he is responding to the death of Superboy?
