Wow, had a little trouble finding the Gail Simone comics this week (I don’t do comic subscriptions), so this was almost a short post. But a visit to another store got me caught up.
I also want to shout out to 2 Guys Buying Comics’ Randy, who’s doing the same thing I am (ranking from worst to best each week). If two bloggers are doing it, it must be good.

- Supergirl #7: This was exactly what I expected: confusing as usual (as far as “One Year Later” comics go, this one is very unfriendly to new readers). I hate that they keep calling the Supergirl/Power Girl team “Flamebird and Nightwing” instead of the other way around. I hate that there’s a last page reveal that just made me scratch my head and say “Who is that?” This comic definitely earns its place as worst of the week. I think I’ll start referring to Supergirl as “Tramp Stamp Girl.”
- 52: Week Nine: Eh. Not a great start to the third week of this comic. A fight between Steel and his niece takes up the bulk of the book, which would be fine, except that it doesn’t make much sense, unless Natasha lost some brain cells. And is Devilance the Pursuer related to Mister Nebula?
- Secret Six #2: Is it just me, or is Dr. Psycho totally overused now? He’s in Manhunter, Secret Six, and Wonder Woman. That’s a little much. Anyhow, it’s not that this comic was bad, but it didn’t fulfill my high expectations. Torture is a little boring these days.
- Atom #1: I thought this was good, but not great. It is head and shoulders above the Flash restart, but it’s probably unfair to judge it after one issue. That won’t stop me, though. It was an adequate set up for future issues.
- Teen Titans #37: I have to give this comic the “best panel of the week” award. Why? Two words: Martian Girl. Plus, Batman and Robin can now double date with Wonder Woman and Wonder Girl: how cool is that? I enjoyed the Doom Patrol in this, I liked Cyborg, etc. This comic is using the “One Year Later” premise to its advantage.
- Detective Comics #821: A nice, self-contained story marred by some really awful art in places. J.H. Williams III does a great Batman and Robin, but his Bruce Wayne is, to be blunt, awful (still, it was nice to see Bruce actually using his playboy status to his advantage). Still, I love that Batman tells Robin not to interfere, and Robin does so anyhow, and seeing Batman actually use his detective skills is a nice change of pace.
There we have it. The big loser this week was Secret Six, which drops from #1 to #4, with the big winner being Teen Titans, going from #4 to #2. But overall, I think this was a strong week.
