Last Comic in the Pile, July 26th

Another week, and here’s how I think the quality of this week’s comics will stack up against one another, from worst to best.

Samaritan

  • Supergirl #8: A no-brainer. You know, I’m thinking that maybe they are making an incomprehensible Nightwing and Flamebird story as an homage to the Silver Age? Otherwise, I don’t know why this exists. It’s a waste of Power Girl.
  • Nightwing #122: Ah, the “finale of our chaotic story” if I recall the blurb. This might be slightly better than Supergirl, but it’s like the choice between poop and barf, either way, it still stinks.
  • 52: Week Twelve: Nice cover, but I’m not expecting much.
  • American Way #6: If they can get away from the overdone racism angle, there’s probably a good story here.
  • Birds of Prey #96 : Now that the team is sorta all back together, time for some new complications. Should be good.
  • Batman #655: I hear some Scottish chap named Morrison is taking over this title for a little while. I wish Animal Man would guest star.
  • Astro City Samaritan Special: Yay, Astro City! I’m also a sucker for start white cover backgrounds.

A week with Astro City is always a good week. This is also the last week for 52, for me, unless this issue is really good or I’m really weak. I hear that Nightwing is getting a shot in the backup story somewhere down the line.
