Last Comic in the Pile, August 2nd

Another smaller week, so good chances for lower ranked comics to make a move.

Update: Okay, here’s the final rankings for the week. It was a tough week: all the comics were pretty good, I thought.

  Initial Ranking Final Ranking Change
4 Agents Of Atlas #1
Getting this one on a whim, really, so I’m not expecting much.
52: Week Thirteen
I thought it was another strong issue of 52, but the other comics this week were just stronger. At least things are happening in this series.

3 52: Week Thirteen
Yep, 52 is getting another four issues out of me. The Black Adam story has me interested.
Agents Of Atlas #1
Surprisingly good, but I’m a sucker for talking gorillas. However, I do wish that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been left out of the mix. It just bothered me.
+1
2 Atom #2
Hoping for some more fun science adventures, now that the "secret origin" and setup stuff is out of the way.
Atom #2
Sure enough, Gail Simone doesn’t disappoint: the plot is switching into high gear, with Ryan learning more about the technology Ray Palmer left behind, while getting involved in mysteries possibly beyond his skills. I’m also loving the footnote quotes from real and fictional scientists.
-
1 Detective Comics #822
Wow! Another issue already? I’m really excited about this comic: it’s a return to nice self-contained stories and actually shows Batman doing detective work.
Detective Comics #822
The Batman and the Riddler team up to solve a murder! This comic has quickly become a favorite: the self-contained story, the excellent plot, and an artist that makes Bruce Wayne actually look good. Plus, you have to love the Riddler in the Batmobile: "First time I’ve been inside it conscious."
-

I’ll also be picking up Manifest Eternity for my significant other, but since I’m not reading it, it’s unfair for me to put it in the rankings.

Update: All the comics this week were good, which is always a good thing. I’m interested in seeing where Agents of Atlas ends up going: it has a lot of potential.
