In a fit of nostalgia, I picked up a few of old mid-1970s comics, including Super-Team Family #6, which reprinted some older team oriented stories. In this issue, we get a Superman/Batman/Robin story, with the Composite Superman, from World’s Finest #168; and the last Marvel Family story for a long time, from Marvel Family #89. I loved the old reprint books.
Now, of course, the magic of flatbed scanners allows me to take random panels out of context to make fun of old comics and characters. So let’s begin!
Composite Superman is one damn cool villain: every time he shows up, he nearly kills Superman, Batman, and Robin. But wait, if all he really wants to do is kill them, why does he kidnap Robin rather than just vaporize him? This panel reveals why!

Poor, poor Robin. Spread-eagled on his stomach, every limb staked, his cape moved off to the side. What an odd position for a kidnapper to put you in. I wonder what the Composite Superman was thinking?
Of course, they got Joe Meach back, by giving him the world’s worst headstone/monument:

"Joe Meach: He Lived A Criminal, But Died a Hero" it reads. Wow, that’s just harsh.
The Marvel Family gets to have a little fun, too (though I recall when reading Captain Marvel stories, they all seemed to revolve around Billy trying to get his gag off so he could say "Shazam." This one was no different).
Anyhow, a quick Marvel Family quiz. Mary is acting a little odd:

What do you do?
- Attempt to calm her down?
- Use the wisdom of Solomon to figure out a logical plan of action?
- Consider the many reasons why Mary might be acting oddly, like, maybe she was replaced by a robot?
Let’s see what brilliant course of action Billy and Captain Marvel Junior boldy take:

Yes, instantly declare her "insane" and have Junior cart her off to a mental hospital. Man, the 50s were great.

Ooo nostalgia!
World’s Finest 168 was actually my very first super-hero comic, dooming me to a life of worshipping/fearing The Composite Superman.
And I remember that Marvel Family story! Isn’t Mary a robot? (Not all the time, just in that story …)

Yep, she does indeed turn out to be a robot.
