With both Teen Titans and Justice League Unlimited off the air (which is too bad, since both still had more mileage in them), there are now fewer choices to get the super-hero cartoon fix. So I’ve had to turn to an older show, which I’ve not enjoyed in the past, and a new show.
The Batman
As mentioned above, I haven’t really liked The Batman in the past. Firstly, it always smacked me of a "toy show." That is, a show that only exists to sell product tie-ins. From the handful of episodes I had seen from the first and second season, nearly all seemed to involve some stupid gadget or costume. I mean, the first time this version of the Batman fought Bane, he had to use a frickin’ exo-skeleton. And the animation style was, to be kind, different. Every character seemed to have weird faces. The redesigns of the Batman’s villains were awful.
However, in the third season, I thought the show improved. The introduction of Batgirl was done nicely, and the episodes seemed to be less about the gadgets.
In the fourth season, the show is starting to bring in more of the Batman mythos; mainly, the introduction of Robin. And, so far, I’ve been enjoying it more than the previous seasons. There’s also the promise of Nightwing showing up at some point, I think.
Legion of Super-Heroes
With the character designs, people were likely expecting more Teen Titans than Justice League with the Legion of Super-Heroes, but I think it’s more the latter than the former.
It has an interesting conceit: a couple of members of the Legion, Brainiac 5 and Bouncing Boy, are faced with villains they can’t defeat: so they travel into the past to grab Superman, the greatest hero ever (even in the 30th century). Except that they overshoot and end up finding a Clark Kent who isn’t yet Superman. Long story short: basically, Superman is learning to be a hero in the future, alongside the Legion.
And what a Legion: while I’m not fond of "transforming Brainiac 5," most of the character designs are pretty damn good, with Triad/Triplicate Girl/Whatever They Are Calling Her This Reboot being particularly neat looking.
And the shows incorporate Interlac! How cool is that?

I trust that this means you have completed your moving, so—welcome back!

Did you see this week’s LSH, with appearances by Jo Nah and Tenzil Kem? The fact that this series has now featured Teznil chomping through the Persuader’s Atomic Axe means that I am now morally obligated to buy the DVDs when they come out.

I loved this week’s LSH: any show with Matter-Eater Lad is automatically a winner.
I’m still in the throes of moving, but should be back to more regular blogging in a couple of weeks, I hope. I have stacks of comics to read.
