I’m not sure what the best comic of the year was (likely something I never read), but I do know that there were two comics that caused me pain. The first, of course, was Nightwing, any of the issues written by Bruce Jones. Here are my reviews of issues 119, 121, 122). Jones had the chance to do some rehab on the character, but instead seemed more interested in introducing lame villains and supporting characters that everyone has already forgotten about (just like Chuck Dixon, I might add).
The second disappointment/bad comic of 2006 for me was the highly-touted, highly-awaited, highly-crappy Batman: Year 100 by Paul Pope. Or as I like to call it Dwarfy McSquashedHead: Year 100. You know, I could get past the art if the story wasn’t just a chase scene stretched out to two issues, then two more issues of atmospheric posturing. It certainly wasn’t worth a four-issue Prestige Format printing. Here are my reviews of issue 1 and 2. I bought issues 3 and 4 for no good reason.
