Things I’m Doing and Not Doing This Weekend

Things I’m not doing this weekend:

  • I’m not going to Free Comic Book Day: I don’t like having to elbow my way through throngs of kids who really don’t want to be there (or, if they do, have no manners), just so that they can grab a bunch of free comics for no reason other than they are free. Have Free Comic Book Days actually increased readership? Or has it just staunched the flow of blood? Anyhow, the store I go to had the free comics out last Wednesday (I didn’t pick up any).
  • I’m not seeing Spider-Man 3: I dunno. I thought the first two were okay (though, for the life of me, I can’t recall the plots of either), but this one just seems like the Batman and Robin of Spider-Man films: too many villains, too long, too much CGI for my liking. Why bother even paying actors if you plan on just computer-generating them for half the movie, anyhow?

Things I am doing this weekend:

  • I’m taking my dog to the park: it’s fun, and I’ll get sun and exercise. And a lot of mosquito bites.
  • I’m taking care of my wife: she’s had pneumonia for over a week and a half at this point, right at the start of decent weekend weather. That’s a bummer. I’ll probably pick her up some Lego to cheer her up.
  • I’ll finish reading the Godland trades and a couple of Doom Patrol trades: man, I love the Doom Patrol.

Melinda and I went to Spiderman 3 a few weeks ago. “Disjointed” does not even begin to describe the plot. It’s like they took a handful of comic books, threw them against a wall, and melded three or four together. And waaaaay too long!

The only positive thing I can say is that the theater was excellent.

Hope all is well with you & the family.
