I’ve bought a few of Mattel’s DC Infinite Heroes line: mostly characters that I like (not attempting to collect a full set…yet). These are the 3 and 3/4ths inch character line, so are lacking in some detail/articulation, but are nice enough.

One thing that’s really nice, though, is that they actually got the Nightwing/Starfire scale correct (well, more correct than usual). Starfire is actually taller than Nightwing: something that artists seem to forget constantly, as do the toy makers.

I need to dig up my DC Direct Starfire and Nightwing: I think they were also in scale. Also, it would allow me to set up a great Nightwing/Starfire set up: I’ve got them as Mini-Mates, DC Infinite Heroes, DC Universe Classics, and DC Direct heroes. If they’d make a 13-inch Starfire, I’d be very happy.

I’m still hoping against hope, but there are a couple of things happening that still make me nervous that Kory is on the chopping block. Firstly, of course, is that she’s apparently leaking plasma over in 52 (and it’s been mentioned before that not all the space-faring 52-nauts will be coming back).

The other clue is the recently released cover to Teen Titans #47. Let’s see: a Titan dies, and we’ve got Donna Troy and Nightwing in the mix. That means it’s an old timer. Cyborg is standing there, so it’s not him. Donna is front and center (and in her old costume, so I guess I can stop reading the current Wonder Woman arc) and always considered Kory her sister. I’m not sure who else it could be (Lillith, perhaps? Changeling? Tempest (burying Aqualad in the ground would be funny, I have to admit)). Perhaps it’s Jericho, though I can’t imagine they’d kill him off so quickly after bringing him back.

Apparently, Teen Titans #47 also ties into the Amazons Attack event, so perhaps it’s one of the Titans who joined up during 52, but I can’t think of any that would rate a cover tombstone. The solicitations seems to imply that the Titan expires in that issue, which would mean that Starfire doesn’t die in 52.

Or it’s all a big fake-out. Probably not, though: every event needs the surprise death that makes us think that this event is more eventful than the last. That ploy’s been a cliche since the 80s.
